Parala Maharaja Engineering College (PMEC), Berhampur is the first government engineering college in southern Odisha, India. Established in 2009, the college was instituted by Naveen Patnaik, the then chief minister of Odisha.[1] The college has one academic building, two workshops with three halls of residence, a guest house and a utility block with banking. There is no dispensary facility. It is a constituent college of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT).[2] This college was named after the King Krushna Chandra Gajapati, the creator of modern Odisha. PMEC is NAAC accredited with B+ grade

Academic structure

The college provides four-year Bachelor of Technology degrees in nine disciplines of engineering:[3] civil, computer science, automobile, production, chemical, metallurgy and material, electronics and telecommunication, mechanical, and electrical.

A three-year B.Tech degree for diploma holders as lateral entries is also offered. All courses are full-time.

Each academic year consists of two semesters and a summer term. The education is organized around a credit system, which ensures continuous evaluation of a student's performance and provides flexibility to choose courses to suit the student's ability or convenience. Each course is assigned credits depending upon the class hours.
