Payanywhere is a payments platform that allows business owners in the United States to accept credit and debit card payments in-store, online, and on the go. Merchants may accept payments on their smartphone or tablet via a Bluetooth credit card reader, or on a Payanywhere Smart Solution. Payanywhere offers an app and credit card readers that are compatible with both Apple iOS and Android devices.

In addition to payment acceptance, Payanywhere also offers a solution platform, “Payments Hub,” an online merchant portal that enables businesses to access reporting, manage employees, accept online payments via a virtual terminal, send one-time and recurring invoices, take action on chargebacks, and access additional business management tools.

Payanywhere has simplified the payments process into three parts: iOS and Android app, point of sale hardware and accessories, and a one of a kind business management portal, Payments Hub. All three pieces of the process are supported by an in-house payment processor, Electronic Payment Exchange (EPX).

Payanywhere’s suite of Smart Solutions includes hardware options for countertop and mobile businesses that range from credit card terminals to full point of sale systems.

Overview[edit]

Payanywhere’s payments platform allows business owners  to accept credit and debit card payments on a smartphone or tablet while also enabling them to view reporting, send invoices, accept online payments through a virtual terminal, and manage employees, customers, and inventory. Merchants may accept traditional magstripe credit and debit cards, along with EMV chip cards and NFC contactless payments like Apple Pay – with next day or same day funding, access to Payments Hub, and live customer and technical support.

Business model[edit]

Payanywhere offers pay-as-you-go (as low as 2.69% per swipe) and custom pricing models. The Payanywhere app is available for download, at no cost, in the App Store and Google Play. Merchants can accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express credit and debit cards.

The Payanywhere platform also includes security features like data encryption, tokenization, and fraud protection. Additionally, in-app and online reporting provide small and medium-sized business owners with analysis tools. Users can monitor their daily sales, create inventories, and generate customized reports of all sales activity in real time. This enables users to track sales immediately or over the long term and evaluate sales based on time of day, week, or month to assess inventory orders and product promotions.

Payanywhere operates on EPX, a secure, fully integrated, international payments platform that acts as processor, acquirer, and backend service partner also under Payanywhere’s parent company North American Bancard.

North American Bancard is the parent company and developer of Payanywhere. The Payanywhere app launched on the iOS platform, along with the first credit card reader and merchant portal in January 2011. In May 2011, Payanywhere made its app available for Android devices.

In 2012 Payanywhere credit card readers became available on Amazon and store shelves nationwide in Walmart, Sam's Club, The Home Depot, OfficeMax, Hastings, and Pep Boys, along with regional retailers like Meijer's and Fred Meyer. Payanywhere launched an app for BlackBerry smartphones in May 2012, supporting BlackBerry models OS 4.7 or later. In June 2012, Payanywhere released its Android SDK to complement its iOS SDK, which was made available in December 2011. The SDKs allow developers to embed credit card processing functionality into their own apps.

The first version of Payanywhere’s online merchant portal, Payanywhere Inside, was launched in 2013 with updates to the app and portal that included Spanish language support, hassle-free refunds, in-depth reporting, and cross platform syncing. This portal would later become known as Payments Hub.

In 2014 Payanywhere implemented a customer service team dedicated specifically to Payanywhere users. Payanywhere Storefront, a tablet and stand designed for retail payment acceptance, was launched in April 2014.

In August 2015, Payanywhere introduced a new version of its Payanywhere mobile credit card reader that would accept both EMV chip card and Apple Pay transactions. Then, in October of that same year, Payanywhere began offering the only mobile NFC contactless reader on the market that accepted Apple Pay, Android Pay, and Samsung Pay.

In 2016 software releases for Payanywhere enabled TouchID log-in, custom tip amounts, and compatibility with Apple Watch.

A Virtual Terminal was added to Payanywhere Inside for online payments in 2017. That same year Payanywhere released the 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 Bluetooth Credit Card Readers.

In September 2017, Payanywhere became the first payment processor to offer Bluetooth EMV credit card readers without a monthly fee. As of December 2017, Payanywhere users could use a camera or barcode scanner to accept Alipay through both the mobile app and Payanywhere Storefront.

In 2018 the Terminal theme interface was added to the Payanywhere app. The Payanywhere Smart Terminal is announced as Payanywhere’s first smart terminal in the Smart Solution hardware lineup. The Payanywhere Smart Point of Sale is later added to the Smart Solution suite.

In 2019 the Payanywhere Smart Flex is added to the Smart Solution lineup.

In 2020 Payanywhere Inside becomes Payments Hub. Software release allows EBT acceptance with a Payanywhere Smart Solution. The Payanywhere Smart Terminal Mini and Payanywhere Smart POS+ are added to the Smart Solution lineup. Same day funding and the Edge program also launched in 2020.
