Pierre-Cédric "Nacho"[1][2] Labrie (born June 12, 1986) is a professional ice hockey left winger. He currently plays with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Playing career

Juniors and early life

Labrie left hockey at the age of 17 when he was cut from the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.[3] He worked the night shift at a convenience store and worked at a restaurant as a chef's assistant. Labrie found it within himself to restart his hockey career completely, first playing in a weekend rec league, then Junior A, Juniors, the AHL, and finally making it to the NHL.[4]

Professional

Labrie as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

On January 7, 2012, Labrie made his NHL debut playing with the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 3–1 defeat on the road against the Montreal Canadiens.[5] He later recorded his first NHL point, an assist, in a victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on January 21, 2012.[6]

On July 1, 2014, Labrie signed a one-year contract as a free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks.[7] They assigned him to their AHL-affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs on September 30, 2014. In the 2014-15 season, Labrie added a veteran presence in producing 16 points in 60 games. On June 18, 2015, Labrie was re-signed to a one-year AHL contract to remain with the IceHogs.[8]

In the following off-season, Labrie opted to remain within the Blackhawks organization, agreeing to another one-year, two-way NHL contract on July 1, 2016.[9]

Personal life

While on a fishing trip with fellow Tampa Bay Lightning teammates Keith Aulie and Anders Lindback, Labrie managed to catch a pelican. An animal lover, Labrie was able to unhook the bird, and let it go unharmed.[10]

He is now dating Patrick Roy's daughter, Jana Roy.
