Pleternica is a town in the region of Slavonia, Croatia, 12 km (7.5 mi) southeast of Požega, in the Požega Valley (Požeška kotlina). The population of the municipality is 11,323, with 3,418 in Pleternica itself (2011).[1]

Pleternica is located at the confluence of the river Londža into the Orljava river, at the foot of the mountain Požeška Gora; elevation 153 m (502 ft).

The place was first mentioned in 1270 under the name Sveti Nikola (St. Nicholas); the first mention under the present name was in 1427.

A small town at the railway junction and the intersection of several roads meets the requirements of transit tourism. The folklore event Lidas traditionally takes place in Pleternica.

The Orljava and the Londža rivers provide angling opportunities. A nice waterfall on the Orljava river near Pleternica is a famous angling and excursion destination.

Settlements
