...that London Bridge was the only bridge over the Thames in London until Westminster Bridge was opened in 1750?
Although there has been a bridge on the site since the time of the Romans, the most famous is probably 'Old' London Bridge, which was lined with shops, inns and houses. It opened in 1209 and stood for over 600 years. Only two fragments of this renowned bridge survive—two pedestrian alcoves at the east end of Victoria Park, in east London, where they were placed in 1860, although the old bridge was demolished in 1831 after remaining in service while a new crossing was constructed.
The current London Bridge opened in 1973 to replace the 1831 bridge—which is now a tourist attraction in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
