RBS TV Passo Fundo (channel 7) is a television station in Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, affiliated with TV Globo, member of RBS TV and owned by Grupo RBS. RBS TV Passo Fundo's studios and transmitter are located on Princesa Isabel Street, in the Petrópolis district.

History[edit]

The station was founded on May 28, 1980, by Maurício Sirotsky Sobrinho. On October 1, 1983, TV Umbu, along with other RBS TV stations in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, was renamed RBS TV Passo Fundo.

On March 24, 2012, RBS TV Passo Fundo starts broadcasting part of the programming in HDTV. It is the first station in the interior of the state to broadcast soap operas in high definition, on Channel 34/UHF (Virtual Channel 7.1).[1]

Transition to digital signal[edit]

The station will shut down its analog signal, over VHF channel 7, on December 31, 2023,[2] as part of the federally mandated transition from analog to digital television. The station's digital signal remains on its pre-transition UHF channel 34, using PSIP to display RBS TV Passo Fundo's virtual channel as 7 on digital television receivers.

Programming[edit]

Since August 19, 2019, RBS TV Passo Fundo began broadcasting the regional blocks of Jornal do Almoço for the coverage regions of Cruz Alta, Erechim, Passo Fundo and Santa Rosa. The blocks started to be presented for another 136 municipalities, in addition to the 84 already covered. In this way, 5 coverage squares in the north and northwest regions of Rio Grande do Sul. With the network formed, the regional blocks now have about 2 million potential viewers.
