Professor Raj Senani [1] (born in 1950 at Budaun), is an eminent academician and researcher in the field of electronics engineering. Apart from teaching courses in the areas related to Analog Circuit Design, he has made significant contributions to the fields of Analog integrated circuits, Analog signal processing and Analog VLSI Circuits, in the course of his research work. He served as the Director of Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) recently during October 2008-December, 2014 and earlier during 1996-1997 and 2003-2004. After his superannuation on 31st March, 2015, he has been continuing as a Professor in ECE Division of NSIT. In addition, he is also functioning as an Adjunct Professor for National Institute of Technology (NIT), Patna.

Education

He obtained his bachelor's degree in Science from University of Lucknow and bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Harcourt Butler Technological Institute( HBTI ) Kanpur and masters in Electrical Engineering from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT), University of Allahabad , India. While working as a lecturer in the same college, he initiated his independent research in the areas of Analog Integrated Citcuits and Signal Processing and obtained his Ph.D. for some of his work on `Realisation of Some Classes of Active Networks' in the late eighties.

Professional career

He joined MNR Engineering college, Allahabad MNNIT, as a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, in July 1975. Soon after finishing his Ph.D., he was selected for the position of Reader at MNNIT Allahabad in January 1987. In July 1988, he joined as Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Delhi Institute of Technology (DIT), then at Kashmere Gate, New Delhi, India. It later shifted to Dwarka and was renamed as Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT). Dr. Senani became a full Professor at DIT (NSIT) in May 1990.

A complete detail of awards and honours can be found here.[2] Senani is an elected Member of Sigma Xi: The Scientific Research Society (USA), a Senior Member of IEEE (USA), a Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) (IE) and a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) India. He is a Chartered Electrical Engineer certified, recognised and registered by the Institution of Engineers (India).

In 2008, he was elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) in recognition of his contributions to the field of Analog Integrated Circuits & Signal Processing and Analog VLSI Circuits & Systems.

International award

In February 2012, Senani was chosen as the Second Laureate of the 25th Khwarizmi International Award (KIA), for his Excellence and Dedication in carrying out Fundamental Research on the `Synthesis and Design of Analog Filters, Oscillators and Simulated Impedances using Modern Electronic Circuit Building Blocks' by Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology.

There were 162 candidates from 46 foreign countries running for the 25th KIA out of which 08 international winners were selected for the honour from various areas of Science and Technology. Doctor Senani is amongst the 03 Foreign Laureates (out of the 08 international winners) who were honoured for Fundamental Research in their respective disciplines.

Research work

Prof. Senani has been conducting and supervising research in the areas of analog integrated circuits and signal processing since 1975. He is author/co-author of over 150 international research publications in IEEE (USA), IEE (UK) and other refereed international journals of repute, out of which over 100 research publications have resulted from his research work carried out exclusively at DIT/NSIT. His research papers have been widely referred world-wide by other researchers working in similar areas; he has received over 4000 citations with an h-index of 35 and i-10 index over 100 so far.[3] A complete list of his publications can be found here.[4]

He was instrumental in introducing a number of new courses in various UG and PG programs at M. N. R. Engineering College, Allahabad and NSIT. In 1989, he played a key role in developing the BE (Instrumentation and Control Engineering) program. As Dean, PG Studies and Head Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), he led a team of faculty members in formulating and initiating several M. Tech. programs in specialized areas.[citation needed]

He was Faculty-in-Charge for the Basic Electrical Engineering Laboratory and Applied Electronics Laboratory, at M. N. R Engineering College, Allahabad, India. He established the `Linear Integrated Circuits' Lab. at Delhi Institute of Technology, India and ‘Analog Integrated Circuits Labs.’ and ‘Analog Signal Processing Research Lab’ at NSIT.

Administrative responsibilities

Dr. Senani has held many positions of responsibility at the Departmental, Institutional and University levels since 1990. He has served as the Head of various Divisions/Schools at NSIT as well as at Delhi University level during 1990-2014. He also served as the Dean of Research, Dean of Academics, Dean of Administration and Dean of Post Graduate Studies, at NSIT during 1990-2001 and was the Dean, Faculty of Technology, University of Delhi, during July 2011–July 2014. He held the position of the Director of DIT/NSIT during 1996–1997, 2003–2004 and lastly, during 2008-2014.
