Ralph Clyde "Mac" McKinzie (October 1, 1894 – December 7, 1990) was an American football, basketball, and baseball coach.
Coaching career
McKinzie was the third head football coach for the Eureka College Red Devils located in Eureka, Illinois and he held that position for seventeen seasons, from 1921 until 1937. His career coaching record at Eureka was 36 wins, 80 losses, and 10 ties. This ranks him first at Eureka in total wins and eighth at Eureka in winning percentage.[1]
McKinzie was the football coach for Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States.[2]
Recognition
Eureka College has recognized its alumnus and former coach, Ralph McKinzie, by naming its football field McKinzie Field. A plaque at the entrance to the field also encourages visitors to reflect on the power of coaching and mentoring in the lives of the players, through the example of Coach McKinzie's important role in the life of his player and future U.S. President Ronald Reagan.
