Ramdev Singh Maharia (5 January 1933 – 3 April 2011) was an Indian politician from Sikar, Rajasthan. He was Minister in Government of Rajasthan between 1985 and 1990 and held various portfolios such as Health ministry and Agriculture ministry. He served as member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. He was elected to the Rajasthan Assembly for seven terms in a political career spanning over 40 years. He was a member of Indian National Congress.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
[edit]Maharia was born on 5 January 1933 in Kudan, Rajasthan in a Hindu Jat family to Shri Shivbaks Ram. He did Bachelor of Commerce from Poddar College, Nawalgarh and Bachelor of Laws from University of Delhi.[3]
Political career
[edit]He won 1957 and 1962 Rajasthan Assembly elections from Singrawat constituency and then he won 1967 elections from Sikar constituency. He then contested from Dhod constituency and was elected to the assembly for four terms between 1977 and 1992. In his career he was elected to the Rajasthan Assembly for seven terms.[4][5][6][7]
His ministerial tenures within the Government of Rajasthan are as follows: The Minister of Ayurveda Department served from 11 March 1985, to 16 October 1985. Concurrently, the same period marked the tenure for the Minister of Medical and Health Department, as well as the Minister of Family Welfare Department. The Minister’s term for the Family Welfare Department extended until 20 January 1988. From 16 October 1985, to 8 April 1986, the roles of Minister of Prisons Department, Minister of Printing Department, Minister of Stationery Department, Minister of State Motor Garage Department, and Minister of Statistics Department were held. The Minister of Cooperation Department served from 16 October 1985, to 20 January 1988. The tenure for the Minister of Dairy Department, Minister of Animal Husbandry Department, Minister of Sheep and Wool Department, and Minister of Fisheries Department was from 7 February 1986, to 20 January 1988. Additionally, the Minister of Agriculture Department served from 6 September 1986, to 3 January 1987. Lastly, from 4 December 1989, to 4 March 1990, the positions of Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department, Minister of Desert Development Department, and Minister of Special Planning and Integrated Rural Development Department were held.[3]
