Ride Along 2 is an upcoming 2016 American action comedy film directed by Tim Story and written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi. It is the sequel to the 2014 film Ride Along. The film stars Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Tika Sumpter, Benjamin Bratt, Olivia Munn, and Ken Jeong. Universal Pictures will release the film on January 15, 2016.
Plot
Ben Barber graduates from the police academy and is now a full fledged Atlanta P.D. cop, and wants to make it as a detective. James, Ben's soon to be brother-in-law, is still annoyed by his tactics. Ben is about to get married to James' sister Angela, but their boss Lt. Brooks (Bruce McGill) assigns them on a huge case that is in Miami, where they will be working with the Miami Police Department

Production
On April 23, 2013, the studio announced that there would be a sequel to the film, with the script written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi.[7] On February 18, 2014, it was announced that after the success of the first Ride Along film, Universal is moving forward with its sequel which Tim Story will direct again.[8] Ice Cube and Kevin Hart will be back to reprise their roles. Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi are finalizing the script with production set to start in late June or early July 2014.[9] Benjamin Bratt would be joining the film's cast with a plot Variety revealed is that this installment will have its two stars traveling to Miami for fun, chaos, and shenanigans.[10] On July 16, Glen Powell joined the cast of the film.[3] On July 28, Sherri Shepherd joined the cast of the film.[4]
Filming
The principal photography on the film began on July 7, 2014 in Miami, Florida.[11] On July 9, both actors Cube and Hart were spotted on the set of the film at a beach in South Beach area.[12] After a week of shooting in Miami, the production shifted to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on July 14,[13] where they filmed through July 21.[14] Then the filming took place again in Miami through the end of July and then the production moved to Atlanta, where the first part of the film was shot.[15] In Atlanta, after preparations began on July 24 for the filming scenes at 55 Park Place, the filming started on July 28,[16] and it'll be shot at 55 Park Place through August 4.[17] Principal photography ended in September 2014
Release
On March 13, 2014, Universal set the film for a release on January 15, 2016.[18]
The first official trailer for Ride Along 2 was released on August 13, 2015 and attached to screenings of Universal's Straight Outta Compton.[19][20]
