Roc Nation Sports is an American sports management company. Its sports management division of Roc Nation. The company is, according to their website; "dedicated towards sports representation for professional athletes and focuses on elevating the careers professional sportspeople globally both on and off the field by fully conceptualizing and executing marketing and endorsement deals, community outreach, philanthropic endeavors, media relations and branding strategy."[1] Roc Nation Sports was founded by Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter in Spring 2013. He also announced a partnership with Creative Artists Agency, a prominent talent agency based in Los Angeles.[2]
History
Roc Nation Sports' first major move was signing New York Yankees All-Star second baseman Robinson Canó.[3] They have also signed New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz and WNBA prospect Skylar Diggins to Roc Nation Sports.[4][5] Jay-Z also showed interest in signing ice hockey prospect Seth Jones to Roc Nation Sports after the 2013 NHL Draft.[6] In May 2013, New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith joined the agency as his new representation.[7] He is the second NFL player to join Roc Nation Sports.[7] On June 20, 2013 it was revealed that Jay-Z was officially certified as a sports agent for the National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball.[8] On June 24, 2013 Roc Nation Sports added the NBA Oklahoma City Thunder's superstar Kevin Durant to the agency.[9] On February 24, 2014 wide receiver Hakeem Nicks of the Indianapolis Colts joined Roc Nation Sports.[10] On May 1, 2014 Roc Nation Sports added James Young of the Kentucky Wildcats, predicted to go during the first round of the 2014 NBA draft.[11] On July 11, 2014, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown left the firm after just two months with the company.[12] In November 2014, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant would also join the company.
