Russ Parrish (born November 24, 1970 in Redwood City, California) is an American guitarist known by his stage name Satchel in the glam metal band Steel Panther (formerly known as Metal Skool).

Russ also is the leader of his own band called The Thornbirds with Darren Leader who is also a member of Steel Panther, Guitarist, Jeff Duncan, is a former member of rock-metal bands Odin, Armored Saint, The Atomic Punks, and DC4. Rounding out the group is bassist Dean Cameron.

In the early 1990s Russ was an instructor at The Guitar Institute of Technology (G.I.T.) at Hollywood's Musician's Institute. Russ played guitar for Jeff Pilson's post- Dokken band War & Peace and released one CD, before leaving to join Rob Halford's band Fight.[1] In 1995, Parrish played guitar in Kevin Gilbert's touring band (dubbed "Thud") in support of Gilbert's Thud album. Parrish can be seen performing with Gilbert on Welcome to Joytown - Thud Live at the Troubadour, a DVD/CD combo released in 2009 documenting the band's June 1, 1995 concert at The Troubador in Los Angeles. In 1996, he played guitar with vocalist Sebastian Bach in the song, "Rock Bottom" [disambiguation needed] for an Ace Frehley tribute album named Spacewalk (A Salute To Ace Frehley)[2]

Equipment

Since his work in Steel Panther, Parrish has been endorsed by Kramer Guitars. He plays Kramer Pacer guitars into EVH 5150 III 100 watt amplifiers. In the past, he used Marshall JCM 2000 (both TSL and DSL) amps, and both Peavey 5150 and Triple X amplifiers.

As of 2013, Parrish is using a Marshall JCM 800 2210 alongside a Peavey 5150 II. Both amps are run through two Marshall 1960A cabinets. The JCM 800 is mainly used for rhythm playing while the 5150 II is used for leads and solos. A Kramer Pacer Vintage in a tiger stripe finish is currently the main guitar used by Parrish.

The Kramer Pacers Satchel uses are made out of USA manufactured parts rather than off the shelf Kramer Pacer guitars manufactured in Korea and Indonesia. The most noticeable difference is the bubinga skunk stripe on the back of the necks on all of his guitars. He uses a selection of Seymour Duncan pickups and an original Floyd Rose tremelo is fitted to all his guitars.
