Seohara is a city and a municipal board in Bijnor district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Geography

Seohara is located at 29°13′N 78°35′E / 29.22°N 78.58°E / 29.22; 78.58[1]. It has an average elevation of 211 metres (692 feet). The main streets of Seohara are Usman Nagar, Milkiyan,Choudriyan (Muslim & Chaudhriyan), Sheikhan, Chanchalpuriyan,Peer ka Bazar, Jumerat ka bazar etc. Total Population of Seohara is 70 thousand Aprox.(survey 2007). Seohara is situated on Haridwar- Moradabad State highway.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census[2], Seohara had a population of 43,985. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Seohara has an average literacy rate of 48%, lower than the national of 59.5%: male literacy is 54%, and female literacy is 42%. In Seohara, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age. In 1901 the population of the town was 10,062.(as per Imperial Gazetteer 2 of India, vol II, Page 283)

Educational institutions in Seohara;- Muslim Qudrat Intermediate College: The oldest modern education centre was established by Shaikh Qudratullah Saheb. Muslim Qudrat Girls Intermediate College. Daani Kanya Mahavidyalya: Affiliated to MJP Rohilkhand University, Barielly.Birla Girls Inter College. Runs by educational Society of Birla group. Sarang convent school: Affiliated to CBSE Board. Gyandeep Public School: Affiliated to CBSE Board. Raghuraj Singh Public Inter College: established by Kunwar Raghuraj Singh of Seohara Riyasat of British period.

Industry

Intustry in Seohara;- Upper Ganges Sugar & Industries (UPPERGA), part of the K.K. Birla group, is primarily engaged in the business of manufacturing sugar and tea. It was incorporated on Aug. 10, 1932 and got its current name on Sept. 3, 1984.
