Sir William Romney's School is a secondary school with academy status in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, England, with students aged 11–16. It serves schools around the Tetbury, Leighterton, Stroud, Cirencester, Nailsworth and Avening, also many other towns around Tetbury. In 2016 the school achieve a 'Good' rating from Ofsted.

There is a house system in which a student who did good work may earn points for their house, At the end of term whichever house has the most points wins a prize or non-uniforn day. The student with the most points also wins a prize. There are three houses, named Andromeda , Pegasus, and Orion.

History

School

• In 1610 Sir William Romney set aside some money in his will for a school to help children read and write.
• In 1837 a new National school was built of Charlton road
• In 1921 grammar school called, Sir Willam Romney's School was opened in Long Street
• In 1952 it had become a comprehensive school
• In 1969 it moved to the current site at the end of Lowfield Road.

Performing Arts status

Sir William Romney's was awarded its Performing Arts status in 2005; this meant grants for the schools. It has also been involved in many dramatic and artistic activities in the years since.

School Uniform

The traditional, distinctive grey, uniform of the school reflects the schools long history. All students are required to wear a white shirt, burgundy tie, and grey school jumper. Girls are also required to wear a grey skirt with grey tights or socks. Boys, on the other hand, wear black trousers and black socks. All students must wear black shoes. Uniform accessories such as hair accessories must be in keeping with the traditional school colours (grey and burgundy).

Sixth form

Despite a fight to keep the school's sixth form from closing, Sir William Romney's 16 to 18 provision was shut down in 2006. The school did not have a Year 12 from September 2006. The nearest sixth forms are now Deer Park in Cirencester and Downfield in Stroud.
