Sit Down, Man is the second mixtape by Brooklyn based alternative hip hop act Das Racist, released as a free download on September 14, 2010, through the group's own Greedhead imprint, streetwear label Мишка and Mad Decent records.
History
Following the relative success of Shut Up, Dude, their first mixtape, Das Racist were quick to capitalize on the growing hype surrounding them, releasing Sit Down, Man within six months of its release. Their previous success meant that they could obtain the services of many guest producers, including Diplo, whose Mad Decent label co-published the album, Dame Grease, Devo Springsteen, Sabzi (of Blue Scholars and Common Market) and Boi-1da, and guest artists El-P, Despot, Vijay Iyer, and Chairlift.[5]
Release and critical reception
The album was very popular on release, gaining over 40,000 downloads in its first week.[6] It also gained good reviews from Pitchfork Media, who gave it 8.7 and named it "Best New Music",[3] and Spin, who rated it 8. The album was included on several best of year lists, including Pitchfork Media's "Top 50 Albums" at number 23[7] and New York Metromix's "Top 11 Albums",[8] and the single "Hahahaha, JK?" also made many "best of" lists, including Rolling Stone[9] and Pitchfork Media.[10]
