Skippy is one of the first films nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, in 1931. The screenplay by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, Don Marquis, Norman Z. McLeod, and Sam Mintz was based on the comic strip Skippy by Percy Crosby.

The movie starred Jackie Cooper, Robert Coogan, Mitzi Green and Jackie Searl. Director Norman Taurog won the Academy Award for Directing. The film also did well enough to inspire a sequel called Sooky, which is the name of the character Robert Coogan played.

Plot

The story involved Skippy's efforts to help his new friend Sooky. Sooky is played by Jackie Coogan's brother Robert. In the story Sooky lives in a shantytown.
