Sonadia Island is a small island of about 9 square kilometres (3.5 square miles), offshore of the Cox's Bazaar coast in Chittagong Division, Bangladesh.

Transport

Sonadia is seen as a potential deepwater port lying on the Bay of Bengal that could serve the landlocked parts of India, Myanmar and China.[1]

Rail connections have yet to be built, and the question of gauge has yet to be resolved as the following gauges are in use or possible:

  • 1,676 mm (66 in) - Bangladesh, India
  • 1,000 mm (39 in) - Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Thailand, etc.
  • 1,435 mm (56 in) - China
