Soni Razdan (born 25 October 1956) is a British-born Indian actress and film director.[2]

Early life

Razdan was born in Birmingham, UK, to Gertrude Hoelzer, a German, and N. Razdan, a Hindu Kashmiri Pandit. She is the mother of Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt.[3][4][5][6]

Career

Razdan started her career in English theatre with John Fowler's The Collector and her Hindi stage career with Bund Darvaze, Satyadev Dubey's adaptation of Jean Paul Sartre's No Exit.

She appeared as Sulochana in the hit Doordarshan TV series Buniyaad. She also acted in Indian TV serials Saahil, Gaatha and has been a regular on Indian television.[7] In 2002, she turned to direction with Aur Phir Ek Din on Star Plus, a take-off on the Michelle Pfeiffer-George Clooney starrer One Fine Day.[7]

She has also acted in Bollywood movies.

Razdan is currently directing a film called Love Affair that is expected to be released in 2016.[8]

Personal life

Razdan married film director Mahesh Bhatt in April 1986. She is the mother of actress Alia Bhatt (born 15 March 1993) & Shaheen Bhatt (born 28 November 1988) and step mother of Pooja Bhatt & Rahul Bhatt.[9]
