First National Art Exhibition "Soviet Russia" (Moscow, 1960) ([Первая Республиканская художественная выставка "Советская Россия" 1960 года] Error: {{Lang-xx}}: text has italic markup (help)) was a one of the largest Soviet Art Exhibition of 1960s. Exhibition took place in Manezh Exhibition Hall.

History and Organization

In four months of the exhibition was visited by over 400,000 people.[1] Organization and preparation of the First National Exhibition engaged specially formed Exhibition Committee in the amount of 97 most authoritative experts in the field of fine arts. It was published Сatalog of the exhibition.[2] In total, the Exhibition displayed more than 2,400 works of art of painters, sculptors, graphics, masters of arts and crafts, artists of theater and cinema. Many of art works have been purchased for the largest Soviet Art museums, including the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, and others. After the Exhibition in Moscow there were organized traveling exhibitions, which have been shown in major cities of the Russian Federation.

Contributing Artists

In the largest Department of Painting were exhibited art works by over 500 authors. There were Irina Baldina, Olga Bogaevskaya, Vsevolod Bazhenov, Mikhail Bobyshov, Sergey Gerasimov, Igor Grabar, Aleksei Gritsai, Alexander Deyneka, Alexei Eriomin, Mikhail Kaneev, Boris Ioganson, Maya Kopitseva, Boris Korneev, Engels Kozlov, Anatoli Levitin, Alexander Laktionov, Dmitriy Nalbandyan, Arkady Plastov, Alexander Samokhvalov, Gleb Savinov, Vladimir Serov, Nikolai Timkov, Mikhail Trufanov, Yuri Tulin, Boris Ugarov, Nina Veselova, and many others most prominent painters of the Russian Federation.[3]

In the Department of Sculptures were exhibited art works by Mikhail Anikushin, Lev Kerbel, Alexander Kibalnikov, Vsevolod Lishev, Sergey Konenkov, Ernst Neizvestny, Nikolai Tomsky, Vasily Vatagin, and many others most prominent sculptors of the Russian Federation.

For display at the Exhibition were selected art works created in 1959-1960, as well as some earlier works. Many of them were previously shown at the city and regional Art Exhibitions and were subsequently found in the collections of Soviet Art museums, as well as domestic and foreign galleries and collectors. Among them there were paintings of historical genre such as "For who is right?" by Nina Veselova, "The October slogans of Peace. In Petrograd. 1917" by Alexander Deyneka, "Militias" by Evsey Moiseenko, and others.

The theme of modernity and modern image of the country were figuratively revealed in the works "Guests" by Olga Bogaevskaya, "Holiday in Voronovo village (Chuvashia)" by Nina Veselova and Leonid Kabachek, "Geologists" by Alexei Eriomin, "Development of the North" by Boris Korneev, and others.
