Tell Abyad District (Arabic: تل أبيضTal Abyaḍ) is a district (mantiqah) administratively belonging to Ar-Raqqah Governorate, Syria. At the 2004 Census it had a population of 129,714.[2] Its administrative centre is the city of Tal Abyad. The majority of inhabitants are Sunni Arabs,[3] with a considerable Kurdish minority.[4][5]


The district of Tell Abyad is divided into three sub-districts or Nāḥiyas (population according to 2004 official census):

  • Tell Abyad Nahiyah (ناحية تل أبيض): population 44,671.[6]
  • Suluk Nahiyah (ناحية سلوك): population 44,131[7]
  • Ayn Issa Nahiyah (ناحية عين عيسى): population 40,912.[8]
