Sources[edit]

For improving the article in the future... Sergecross73 msg me 03:14, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Quick Note, Destructoid is not a RS as per WP:VG/S -- author reliability needs to be demonstrated. If there is scrutiny, be ready to demonstrate why "Chad Concelmo" makes this a RS. :) Salvidrim! 03:18, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, but it's a situational source. In my experience, it seems like situational sources are easier to justify in situations like this, where a game has limited RS coverage... Sergecross73 msg me 03:23, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, but the table clearly says author reliability needs to be determined. ;) In addition, paper sources are probably more abundant than online ones for this game. Salvidrim! 03:26, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Reading through it(EDIT:the Destructoid source) now, after reading through the other sources up there, it really doesn't add anything the other ones don't. (In fact, half of it is off-topic ranting on how crazy the VB itself was.) So, I don't really see any need to use it whether its justified or not... Sergecross73 msg me 19:36, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Most reviews are contemporary reviews of a retro game, not reviews at the time of release. I'll try to see if it was covered in magazines -- I'm thinking NP might be possible. Salvidrim! 19:51, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, we may have exhausted much of what the internet can provide in the form of reliable sources... Sergecross73 msg me 19:59, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the ScrewAttack link in the article isn't working for me, and much of their stuff isn't reliable (they have a lot of random-user generated content - only their editor/staff stuff is allowed. Couldn't check to see which of those this was.) Sergecross73 msg me 03:40, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. It is a staff-produced video. Salvidrim! 03:58, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

More reviews[edit]

Of uncertain RS-status, just gathering info:

The last one if most interesting, since it is "vintage" (at the time of the game's release", complete & comprehensive, uncontroversially RS, and... well, great. Use it and abuse it! Salvidrim! 20:02, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'll work on integrating some of that. (I came across that defunct games website recently when researching for another older video game. It was hard to say if it was reliable or not...it seemed to be borderline...) Sergecross73 msg me 04:13, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The best bet is to start a discussion at WP:VG/S about DefunctGames. But the NP source definitely is the most solid base this article will have. Salvidrim! 04:20, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It has been done. FYI. Sergecross73 msg me 04:40, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Other Appearrance[edit]

We'll have to see if we can verify anything in this section, about the Warioware games having similar minigames to Mario Clash. I have a feeling that this could just be someone's original research, but I didn't want to remove it yet, as it would be noteworthy if indeed true... Sergecross73 msg me 03:31, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ultimately, we'll need a source, but I just realized that one of those Warioware games is one of the free Ambassador program games for the 3DS. Since I own Mario Clash and am in Ambassador program, I'll try to check and see if I personally see a connection or not... Sergecross73 msg me 14:16, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Some official strategy guides undoubtedly mention the gameplay of the microgames as described, however if no RS makes the connection with Mario Clash, saying it is similar would be synthesis. And, honestly, it's not exactly "unique" gameplay, so it could be very similar without any link whatsoever. Salvidrim! 17:12, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Salvidrim is right.184.44.129.253 (talk) 17:57, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly, I've seen it referred to as similar to the original Mario Bros. in multiple places...which makes me wonder if the Warioware games are merely based off that... Sergecross73 msg me 20:28, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Considering Mario Clash was based on Mario Bros., it all comes from the same place. Salvidrim! 20:29, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I take back all of by skepticism. I played the minigame, and it is very clearly a Mario Clash reference. Everything is in red and black, the level looks just like a Clash level, and Mario is in the background, throwing a turtle shell into the foreground, a scenario that doesn't occur in the Mario Bros. games. The shell even goes "into" the screen, as if they were trying to simulate 3D (though it obviously wasn't really, with it being a GBA game. (Gameplay is very limited, over the course of about 4 seconds, Mario, who already has a shell, must throw it at the enemy. Mario can't move at all, only time the throw.)

Anyways, I realize we still should probably have a source, I'm just saying that the claim is warranted and apparent, not misinformation. Probably worth looking into. Sergecross73 msg me 01:59, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Which one of the WarioWare game is that? Salvidrim! 02:09, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The one I played wasWarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames! for the Game Boy Advance. From what I read at the article, it sounds like the other one, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Games!, was pretty much just a port/remake for the Gamecube. So it sounds like it was probably more like 1 appearance in 2 versions of the 1 game... Sergecross73 msg me 02:38, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, so I guess I never read through the sources in their entirety. One of the IGN sources mentions it at the bottom! -- Mario Clash lives on not only in the collections of hardcore Nintendo loyalists, but also as a microgame in the first WarioWare for the Game Boy Advance. Sergecross73 msg me 18:16, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Added. The detailes gameplay description of the microgame is uncited, but perhaps not entirely necessary right now. Also merged four identical references into one and converted to proper {cite web} insteas of Bare URLs. Salvidrim! 18:25, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. And sorry, I tend to do the bare minimum as far as the technical stuff goes with refs. I figure as long as the ref itself is there, I let other do the specific clean up stuff. Sergecross73 msg me 18:36, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And the technical side is not something I mind fixing, so it's all good. :p Salvidrim! 18:39, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I found another source that mentions the Warioware minigame, but it only says it happened, not anything about it. The reliable source does link to a youtube video that shows the actual gameplay, but while I think this would make the video reliable, as it was verified by their editor, there's still likely WP:COPYVIO and WP:SYNTHESIS concerns that would pop up in using it at I would think... Development[edit]

Is there any information out there that could be worked into a development section? That's a pretty standard section for videogame articles, but I'm not seeing much along the lines of what usually goes in those. Most of the info found so far seems to fall into "Gameplay", or "Reception". I think with some of the sources that has been scrounged up in the article and on this talk page, something along the lines of "it was meant to be a Mario title to save the system, but it wasn't enough" type thing, but even that would kind of be a stretch... Thoughts? Sergecross73 msg me 18:15, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

While I believe that since this was developped for a rather unique console with unique elements, some basic thing like I did at Dr. Mario (video game), where basically no info on Development is available, might be sufficient. Salvidrim! 22:02, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sometime I'll try to read up on some more general Virtual Boy stuff. Perhaps that could bring up some more passive mentionings of it in relation to the system or something... Sergecross73 msg me 15:41, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps sources from Virtual Boy may be useful. Salvidrim! 21:59, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Started up a development section. I know it might be a bit of a stretch, but I think it could be a good starting point (I wrote it more along the lines of being an intro to the dev section, if/when we're able to expand it more in the future.) Sergecross73 msg me 19:30, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mario Tech Demo[edit]

Still struggling to find more Development section information. (Though the article on a whole looks pretty good, considering what we have to work with.) Something I found while searching; supposedly there was a brief Mario Tech demo shown off for the Virtual Boy, though it was done more in the vein of a Super Mario type way. If any reliable sources covered that tech demo, it would be interesting to see if it had any ties to this game. (ie maybe it was cancelled or delayed in favor of this game?) In my preliminary search, I only found Youtube and Fansite coverage though, and nothing significant, so it could be a stretch, but it's just a thought...
