Shield

[edit]

Can we put up a picture of the 17th TW shield on here ?

Doolittle?

[edit]

Surely a unit formed in 1952 would shy away from taking credit for a 1942 raid? Chris the speller 21:26, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It can claim to have contributed airplanes and crews, but the group itself did not participate in the raid, and therefore its successor cannot claim such history either. Along those lines, the wing per AFI 84-105 can claim to be a successor but is not a lineal descendant of the group. They are two separate entities. I deleted, then restored the history, to give background to the honors that have been bestowed on the wing frpom the group. But AFHRA does not bestow the history, even though AFI 84-105 separates "history" from "honors". AFAIK, no active wing carries the history of a group it succeeds, except where that group is a current component of the wing (which the 17th Training Group, a support and not an operations unit, is not). The AFI states that organizations cannot claim the history, but can "explain" the relationship and continuity of mission in pamphlets, etc. Restoring the history here serves that function.--Reedmalloy (talk) 13:39, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
