F. Sowrey

[edit]

...appears to be Freddie Sowrey. Motorsport issues of the period make reference to a "SILdr. F. Sowrey" in various vintage & club racing meetings and it seems unlikely it's Frederick_Sowrey as he would have been in his sixties at the time. Anyone know of any way to clinch this to Wikipedia's satisfaction? Baron Von Joy (talk) 12:13, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

http://motor-sport.archive.netcopy.co.uk/article/november-1956/49/international-class-g-records-broken-in-england--f mentions a "Wing-Cmdr. F. Sow-trey, A.F.C" (the article is badly transcribed, sadly like most of Motor Sport's online archive), which matches with Sowrey's July 1956 promotion and rank; F. Sowrey Sr. retired as a Group Captain. Going to Be Bold and add that one in. Baron Von Joy (talk) 12:30, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nice work! I agree that this chap is probably our best bet. I think a lot of the chaps in these minor F1 races in the 1950s were probably notable in one way or another, but it's just a matter of finding out exactly who they were. Thanks for adding this one :) Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:55, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
