Time of Crash

[edit]

There are two times given for this crash; 06:50 hours andt 14:15 hours[1] As we have a ref for the 14:15 I will go with this one, but it is from an internet link, so one cannot be too dogmatic about it. Philipjelley (talk) 22:02, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Duplication

[edit]

{{Copypaste|url=http://www.ovguide.com/1991-m4-motorway-crash-9202a8c04000641f8000000016b2e770#|date=July 2013}}

I wrote this article, which was taken from what I had written on the Lambourn page. I didn't copy it from another source, but I notice that this website has copied my article verbatum. I see that they kept my Lambourn-centric view of the crash, whereas other writers would have simply mentioned that it was near M4/J14 or the service station. I am unsure as to Wikipedia's policy to othr websites copying their articles, but I have seen my words used by others on several occasions and this is another. If it's any help the original on the Lambourn page was written on 23/09/10 ("19:04, 23 September 2010‎ Philipjelley (talk | contribs)‎ m . . (38,602 bytes) (0)‎ . . (→‎1991 motorway crash: Motorway Crash) (undo)"). As I recall I also made it into a separate article and this was renamed in 2011. You may check the dates with the article on the other website. As I recall I remembered the crash, but had great difficulty finding sources. Philip Jelley (talk) 00:37, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Currently the text on that website is not that which was added by you; it was added here and cited to that external page. However, a check of archives show that it was mirroring your text in earlier versions, so it seems very likely it is doing that still. That makes it problematic as a reference. I've moved it to external links, assuming from the "about" of the site that it is not a WP:LINKVIO - we can't cite it as a source for figures that it takes from us. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:39, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Recollections of this Accident

[edit]

I was in a coach coming from Bristol to London and we stopped just short of the main accident area. The fog was there one moment and then so thick it wasn't possible to see more than a few meters in front. We sat on the motorway for what seemed like hours until we were turned around on the carriageway and taken back to the nearest services and then to an alternative route into London. We saw the total carnage of burnt out vehicles which seemed to be on both sides of the carriageway as well as a large collection of assorted recovery vehicles in the services getting ready to recover the wrecks. The accident occurred in the early half of the morning as I had taken the first bus out of Bristol that day. The accident would have therefore occurred sometime between 08:00h to 09:00h

If it would be suitable for referencing there is some photos of this accident within this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OphNdZhT9Ik The wreckage is shown in some detail so please use caution when viewing this footage.
