Alonso finished 13th?

[edit]

Can anyone explain why the race table on this article says Fernando Alonso finished 13th, when everyone saw his engine/gearbox blow up? It says something similar here http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/results/8498676.stm UtilityIsKing (talk) 15:48, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Classified 13th, due to his distance covered before his engine blew up; each driver is classified if they complete 90% of the winner's race distance. FIA results here. Cs-wolves(talk) 12:37, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's not exactly uncommon. Happenned to several cars at the Australian Grand Prix either last year or the year before where both Bourdais and I think Raikkonen retired very late in the race but were both classified and I think Monaco in 1994 saw seven cars classified when only four cars were running on the last lap. --Falcadore (talk) 13:04, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, di Grassi and co were so far behind that even though Alonso broke down, there wasn't enough of the race left for those guys to cover as much distance as Alonso had done. Had there been another lap, di Grassi and Chandhok would have passed Alonso, with Senna needing a further lap. Poor Jarno would have needed three extra laps to cover the distance Alonso had covered. All archive URLs were non-functional, so I reverted them all and tagged them with {{cbignore}}. DH85868993 (talk) 04:12, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
