Rangers "relegated"
[edit]The article states that Rangers were relegated to the Third Division in the league table, but this is not true. They applied and entered the Third Division. Should it be changed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.103.82.161 (talk) 06:51, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
Champions League
[edit]If Rangers are ineligable for CL will 3rd place go into the CL or will no one have it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.6.152.4 (talk) 12:45, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
Results by round table
[edit]I understand that this issue has been raised before but I would like to clarify why this feature has been decided against. Surely the argument that "teams play different rounds at different times because of postponements" doesn't hold water. The idea is to give an idea of how the league would have looked at a particular point in time. And since there have been no postponements yet (save for certain Glasgow clubs playing in friendlies), it would be quite simple to amend as necessary.
If the argument is that it's too difficult to do when rounds of fixtures are completely out of sync, I would argue that it's fairly straight forward. When a game is postponed (say this weekend for Celtic v Dunfermline), note the game and the number of the round. From there, a simple spreadsheet would do the brain work. I could do this easily in minutes. If the argument is that it doesn't give an accurate representation of the evolution of the league through time, I would answer that it does since it is meant to give a notional indication of how the league unfolded. Assuming that the result would have been the same no matter when a fixture was played (and to claim otherwise is farcical), it gives an indication of what the league actually would have looked like without all this game in hand nonsense. Additionally, a similar system is used on other pages even though 6-10 games a season are postponed (due to weather, cup competitions, abandonments etc.). It works on those articles, why not this one?
And if entire rounds of fixtures are lost, what difference does it make? I just think, as I did last year, that this particular table is very useful and informative when you want an overview of an entire league season. A table and a results chart doesn't tell you anywhere near enough. Let's face it, the only reason this hasn't been included already is because pedants can't be bothered working out the permutations involved.

- It's quite simple really, the concept of a "round" or "matchday" of fixtures does not exist in Scotland in the way it does in Germany or Italy. Postponements are a common occurence in winter and have become more frequent recently, which is part of the reason why the league started early this year. For example, Dundee United had four league matches in hand at one point last season, and eventually won most of those. It would be a complete misrepresentation to say that their league position after "round x" was y, due to the simple fact that they hadn't won those matches at that point in time. Maintaining your own spreadsheet of your interpretation of the statistics is a synthesis of published information. The major media sources in Scotland don't maintain records of "round by round" statistics. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 05:46, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Note on Rangers being able to compete in Europe next year.
[edit]As I'm sure everyone is aware, Rangers' administrators have admitted there was 'no realistic prospect' of them playing in Europe next season
Although it seems very likely that they will be right, we cannot know that Rangers will be unable to compete in Europe next season until they are actually unable to compete in Europe next season. There is absolutely no need to jump the gun here, and nothing is added to the article by makin this premature declaration. Adam4267 (talk) 18:53, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- Agree although a footnote explaining they are in administration and must file accounts by the 31st to be eligible does do no harm. Edinburgh Wanderer 18:58, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
Rangers are incorrectly noted as being 'relegated' and 'demoted', this isn't the case, the new-rangers were refused entry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.14.165.227 (talk) 09:46, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
