I notice that the title of this article is inconsistent with other articles about lynchings that resulted in the violent death of a single person. I recently moved an article originally called 2019 Deben Dutta mob lynching to Lynching of Deben Dutta, also started by user NeverTry4Me. When naming an article about the lynching of a single person the naming conventions for violence and deaths should take precedence over the naming conventions for events. Because the victim is named in the title, this article should be called "Lynching of Jhankar Saikia". The alternative name, treating this as an event and which is mentioned in sources, would be the "2013 Assam mob lynching". However, a mob or crowd is the usually feature of a "Lynching", so mentioning in the title that it was a "mob lynching" seems superfluous to me. Also, in other articles about "mob lynchings" a group of people are usually lynched, so naming all the victims in the title is less practical. Adding "2013" to the title is also only needed if there are multiple events that would otherwise have the same title. Since Jhankar Saikia died as a result of this event, the chance of multiple events of the same name, but in different years, would seem very remote, so mentioning the year in the title is unnecessary. Lastly, given the court found the case proved under section 302 of the IPC, which is for murder, and included convictions of life imprisonment at sentencing, the generic title for Murder of <victim> articles, could also be used. However, "Lynching of Jhankar Saikia" is more precise and unambiguous. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 07:12, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@NeverTry4Me: I do note that Wikipedia is not a democracy nor is it a bureaucracy. Decisions are made by consensus, so to achieve that I need to understand why you prefer "Jhankar Saikia mob lynching" as an article title. While I have explained why I think "Lynching of Jhankar Saikia" is a more suitable title, you do need to put forward a rational argument why the title you preferred would be better. Please remember, it is not just me you need to persuade but it is the whole Wikipedia community of editors. Simply saying you vote for a particular name is not enough, you need to provide reasons that will convince the consensus of editors to favour your preferred title. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 10:35, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Cameron Dewe for example 2015 Dadri lynching page, if we remove the year from first then it will become "Dadri lynching". Thus, I opined for "Jhankar Saikia mob lynching" or you remove "mob" from the title. Your suggested one, i.e. "Lynching of Jhankar Saikia" is also a nice one. - Signed by NeverTry4MeTalk22:32, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
