Hello, I am planning on reviewing this article for GA Status, over the next couple of days. Thank you for nominating the article for GA status. I hope I will learn some new information, and that my feedback is helpful.
If nominators or editors could refrain from updating the particular section that I am updating until it is complete, I would appreciate it to remove a edit conflict. Please address concerns in the section that has been completed above (If I've raised concerns up to references, feel free to comment on things like the lede.)
I generally provide an overview of things I read through the article on a first glance. Then do a thorough sweep of the article after the feedback is addressed. After this, I will present the pass/failure. I may use strikethrough tags when concerns are met. Even if something is obvious why my concern is met, please leave a message as courtesy.
Best of luck! you can also use the {{done}} tag to state when something is addressed. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs)
Please let me know after the review is done, if you were happy with the review! Obviously this is regarding the article's quality, however, I want to be happy and civil to all, so let me know if I have done a good job, regardless of the article's outcome.

[edit]Lede
[edit]- The 2018 Chicago Marathon was the 41st edition of the annual Chicago Marathon that was held in Chicago, Illinois, United States - I get that this is a reasonably standard format, but personally I think the lede sentence should give the reader more info as to what the article is about. Either a link to marathon or running race would be helpful. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:05, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hope this reads fine. Willbb234
- 'race took place on the morning of October 7, 2018 in wet conditions, with a total of 44,584 runners completing the race... the race... race. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:05, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Removed. Willbb234
- Is there nothing else we can mention? This literally just says the dates and winners. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:05, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- I've added some more information. Willbb234
General
[edit]- long as sanctioned by - is "sanctioned" the right word here. Do they just specify a length and not a course? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:12, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Rewritten. Willbb234
- The course is written in present tense, but this is about 2018, so should be past tense. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:12, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Fixed. Willbb234
- This section has six sentences that start "The course". Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:12, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Changed. Willbb234
- "two of the greatest distance runners of all time". - direct quotes need to have a source next to them to make it obvious where it comes from. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:12, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Done. Willbb234
- "sheen of water on the streets", with the rain returning "briefly" during the race - who said this Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:12, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Done. Willbb234
- 44,584 runners completed the race, - we should avoid starting a sentence with a number. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:12, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Done. Willbb234
- first wave of runners at 7:30 a.m - was this the men's or the women's race, or just a combination? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:12, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- I think it's a combination. The sources I can see don't really offer anything else ([1] and an official programme), so I think we have to assume that the elite men and women started together. This video seems to back that up, but it's not really a reliable source. Willbb234 00:37, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
- Geremew crossed the line in 2:05:24 with Osako coming third in an Asian record of 2:05:50, an achievement which earned him ¥100 million (equivalent to $879,000 in 2018) - I'm asuming by "him" we mean Osako - perhaps we should denote who gave him this. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:12, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Found out it was the 'National Corporate Federation of Japan', but I can't find out whether this is the same thing as the Japan Business Federation. I've included this as requested, though. I think it's clear that it was Osako who received it instead of Geremew. Willbb234
- The results for the Wheelchair races don't have table names, but the others do? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:12, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Good spot. Willbb234 00:25, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
Review meta comments
[edit]- I'll begin the review as soon as I can! If you fancy returning the favour, I have a list of nominations for review at WP:GAN and WP:FAC, respectively. I'd be very grateful if you were to complete one of these if you get time. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 11:58, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hello Lee Vilenski, thanks for the review. I'll get to addressing your comments in the near future. Willbb234 12:36, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Aight, I've taken a look at a few sources as well, seems reasonably well covered by sourcing - happy to promote, even if I'd like a bit more info in the lede. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:36, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
