Speed of the plates
[edit]User:Mikenorton this source states that the speed of the plates is 40-50mm per year. Can you help fact check this? --DBigXrayᗙ 05:48, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
- OK, that took a while. The consensus seems to be that the overall convergence rate is roughly 40-50 mm/year as you say, with the value reducing from east to west. The regional information page from the ANSS source gives 38 mm/year see here for Kashmir, so it is at least a possibility that 73 is actually a typo for 37 - the USGS are not infallible. - Mikenorton thanks for correcting this. Yes, seems like that is what happened here. These numbers were too far apart. I was concerned that we were disseminating wrong info. Glad this is sorted. Regards. --DBigXrayᗙ 05:48, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
- They've now updated the page to 39 mm/year - I did inform them of the error, although never got a reply. Mikenorton (talk) 10:44, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
Changes to article name
[edit]I see that we have another change in name. I started this article as the 2019 Pakistan earthquake, not being sure how to handle the Kashmir area, but it was stable for a while as "2019 Kashmir earthquake". I can't see any good reason to change it to its current title. Mikenorton (talk) 10:47, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
- Support the name change in light of the many refs contained in the article. 58.27.134.33 (talk) 11:15, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
- Done here. –MJL ‐Talk‐☖ 03:12, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- User:MJL Thanks for reverting this undiscussed move. For the record, It was brought up at WP:ERRORS before and the current consensus is to use " 2019 Kashmir earthquake" as a stable, factual and neutral title. The quake happened in Kashmir (both Indian and Pakistani areas). "2019 Pakistan earthquake" is not appropriate because it infers that the quake only happened in the Pakistani area, which is factually incorrect.--DBigXrayᗙ 06:07, 10 November 2019 (UTC)
