But *why* is it called the Slug Road?

This is (to outsiders like me!) the single most intriguing thing about it... and it's not answered here! 81.159.58.45 (talk) 17:52, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[1] suggests that it's probably something to do with sloc or slochd - either a muddy pool (due to cattle churning up a drove road?) or a pass, as in the more famous one north of Aviemore. That website suggests some WP:RS. FlagSteward (talk) 01:44, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The link above is now dead but the information is published by the committee of the Dictionary of the Scots Language, so has been added to the article. Baldy Bill (sharpen the razor|see my reflection) 15:12, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
