Untitled[edit]

This article is rife with NPOV word usage and language. Examples include:

  • That Cohen "flourished"
  • "an ascetic of a remarkable type"
  • "subjected to the bastinado, for no other reason than that it was the usual method pursued by the Turkish government for extorting money from the Jews"

This is not an acceptable tone for a Wikipedia article, which is supposed to approach a subject from a neutral, facts-only point of view.—Perceval 01:50, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The first two issues are no problem. The term "flourished" is very common usage in biographies of scholars. It does not imply anything other than that this is the period in which the individual did their most important work. "Remarkable" is appropriate here as well, because in the context it clearly means "highly unusual." The last issue (extortion of money, etc.) should probably have a reference attached to it, as it could be considered biased. As the text was drawn from the Jewish Encyclopedia, however, there is no reason to think it inaccurate. I will see if I can find a reference for it. —Dfass 15:02, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
