Notability

[edit]

This is clearly a borderline case of notability that has sat unreviewed longer than any other article now at AfC. This author/prof is significantly more accomplished than many of the pageant queens and artists that have bios and therefore I believe he would likely survive a deletion discussion. AfC should not block well set up plausibly notable articles from a chance to benefit from collaborative editing in mainspace. Individuals that are notable for several different things (writing/teaching/law) are a little harder to fit into our rules but perhaps WP:ANYBIO and squeaks by WP:PROF. @Legacypac: I'm not sure that Hirsch meets WP:PROF (the chair would need to referenced) and AfD can be brutal to white male academics from Western countries, but if there are more book reviews then WP:AUTHOR might be satisfied. The thing that worried me most was that I couldn't find reference to him as chair at William's College website. PS You need to spell me with an 's' to ping me. spelling was never my strong suit. Someone else accepted the page, so will see how it goes. I'm not taking it to AfD. Legacypac (talk) 15:17, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I missed this discussion when I accepted the article, but it appears we're on the same page. This is borderline notability strictly according to the guidelines, but the details do seem to check out and it would be likely to survive AFD. I did find his name on the Williams College website, by the way. Bradv 23:26, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Because we edit conflicted on this very old draft. I was busy commenting while you were accepting it. Sounds like we are all thinking the same here. Legacypac (talk) 00:42, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
