Personal opinion[edit]

"This song has also been interpreted as a parody of the way men were beginning to respond to the growing feminist movement, by assuming that platonic friendship is the only truly equal relationship."

This line is only a personal opinion (without any credible citation), it should be removed.

Is it really just one person's (the editor's) opinion? Or perhaps it just lacks citation. Peoplesunionpro (talk) 01:23, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article cries for improvement[edit]

I've added an unreferenced template and removed the statement about the song having some connection to feminism (hardly on Dylan's mind at the time, since bras hadn't been burned yet). Suggestions for improvement: Sources abound on the characters surrounding "All I Really Want to Do" - Dylan, Sonny & Cher, The Byrds - with many relevant and notable references. Richie Uterberger's Turn! Turn! Turn!, for example, addresses the connection between Sonny & Cher's and The Byrds' versions (so why the separate, distanced sections in the WP article?) Howard Sounes in Down the Highway has a good tidbit (p. 158) on how Dylan chuckles at one point during the recording, which belies the song's essential sadness. Later (p. 180), Sounes relates when Dylan first performed it (before the Philharmonic Hall recording). As for speculation about the song being written as a message to Dylan's fans, I'll grant the possibility, but something like that demands a citation. We need to know who's opinion this is, and without a citation, there's a strong likelihood it's the editor's. Allreet (talk) 06:28, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the tag on this article suggesting that it "does not cite any references or sources". This is because I have edited the article extensively and inserted multiple inline references to remedy this problem. Kohoutek1138 01:12, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent! Your updates resolve the major problems and fill out the story. My only lingering doubt (hardly worth mentioning at this point) is the contention that Dylan intended the song as a message to his fans, which should be edited if no authoritative source is found to support it. But no biggie. Thanks for hopping on this. Allreet (talk) 14:23, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
