ASA[edit]

This tournament is not a revival of the AFA Cup. The old Newark based AFA is not related to this 'new' American Association despite sharing similar characteristics like the limiting of entries to the same districts as the AFA. This is also not to be confused with the Lewis Cup which was a strictly ASL tournament. The ASA Cup was 'open' just like the NCC with amateur teams meeting in early rounds while the ASL teams entered later. The tournament was a result of the soccer war and the ASA was really the result of the combining of two factions- the ASL and the Southern NY State FA. Like the American and National cups there are numerous variations in naming and hopefully a consensus can be reached with the following suggestions:

1. American Soccer Association Challenge Cup
2.American Soccer Association Cup
3.American Association Challenge Cup
4.American Association Cup
5.American Challenge Cup
6.ASA Challenge Cup
7.ASA Cup
8.American Soccer Cup

The title should be as clear as possible. 2.American Soccer Association Cup is not bad: we would know both country and sport. Cheers.--Latouffedisco (talk) 10:26, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
