Conflict of interest?
[edit]Really? Someone that has made continuous, major contributions to an important part of the computing world for 18 years isn't worthy of a small page? And just as a small correction to the listing of supposed problems with the page, Andreas died a few days ago so it isn't about a living person.172.218.141.213 (talk) 21:26, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
itsmeront It is true that I have worked with Andreas. But I have known him for over 10 years. I'm a part of the Squeak User Community and have been for many years. I have removed the link to 3dicc which is related to me. Andreas' accomplishments are well documented. This article does not benefit my company it is a way to remember some very significant accomplishments of a very talented person. There is no COI in documenting the life of Andreas Raab. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Itsmeront (talk • contribs) 04:13, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
I just want to add a testimony to everything itsmeront is saying. I (Göran Krampe) am also one of the long term members of the Squeak community, about 12 years I think. The article is factually correct (I did a small change just a few minutes back renaming "Squeak Core" to "Squeak Central" and removed that Andreas was one of the guides (he was not, I was though)). Apart from those small bits everything looks proper and Andreas Raab was indeed an extremely remarkable developer and instrumental to a lot of the ground breaking development in the Squeak community. He died just a few days ago far too young, and there is a long thread of condoleances and testimonials about his person pouring in on the squeak-dev mailinglist. The first draft of this article was hastily written, but let us edit it for a few days and I think it will find its form, we are developers and most of us beginners when it comes to editing Wikipedia. I joined today in order to help out with this particular page. For some verification purposes, here is Andreas page on LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/andreasraab (Gokr (talk) 08:44, 18 January 2013 (UTC))
Furthermore, here is a very telling article from David Smith about Andreas: http://croqueteer.blogspot.se/2013/01/andreas-raab-was-my-best-friend.html Now, given his superb praise and the fact that David Smith (who is NOT dead) has a page here on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_A._Smith_(computer_scientist)) , I would say it shows that Andreas deserves a page. cause of death?
[edit]Is the cause of death known? also, is it proper wikipedia etiquette to list the cause of death? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.248.153.231 (talk) 04:25, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
I know how he died but no way to prove it. Andreas died after going into atrial fibrillation after shoveling snow. He made it to a nearby doctor's office where he collapsed and was not able to be revived. Itsmeront (talk) 22:34, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
Redirect categories
[edit]I added article categories to the redirect yesterday, because as it says in WP:RCAT it says "the categories for the redirects that point to the subtopics will be different than the categories for the entire article." For example, it will be useful to readers to find Raab in the category of German programmers.
@Msnicki: Can you explain why you removed the categories, citing the same guideline?

- This redirect isn't pointing to a subtopic in the main article, it's merely pointing to the Squeak article because Raab's name appears there. If there was a whole section on Raab, perhaps with a subheading, e.g., Squeak#Andreas Raab, then I agree it would be appropriate to add categories. But we don't have that. It's only a mention of the name. This is why I believe we are better advised not to add categories other than the maintenance category, the same as is normally done for most redirects.
