Fairweather[edit]

"After an abortive attempt to change the band's name to 'Fair Weather' in 1969..." This conflicts with details contained in Amen Corner (band) which says Fairweather was created when "Fairweather-Low assembled a new short-lived band".

As well, I'm pretty sure the band's name was presented as 1 word rather than 2.Grimhim 07:10, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I partly agree with you. The band name was Fair Weather, not Fairweather, (reference - British Hit Singles - 14th Edition - ISBN 0-85156-156-X). But, the group was a separate entity to Amen Corner, with a different line-up. Can someone please correct the wording accordingly ?

Nothing against poor old Joe, but this recently added paragraph suffers from POV. Can someone re-visit the wording, please ?

The Hyphen[edit]

There is no hyphen in Andy's name. The easiest way to verify this is to look at the albums. Not other people's albums on which he plays as a sideman, but his own. There is not a hyphen to be found. Or look at his own web site, http://www.andyfairweatherlow.com/ -- again, no hyphen.

For some reason, people who would never try to hyphenate John Wesley Harding or William Carlos Willams insist on giving one to poor Andy. But it's wrong.

I agree. The editor who seems to have merged two former articles in the wrong direction has been inactive since Jan 2007. Any objections to fixing this? Pterre (talk) 09:14, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No objections from me - Be bold, Pterre.

I asked an admin to effect the move to reflect the lack of the hyphen. Now all sorted. Thanks,

Place and date of birth[edit]

This website (see at that site: "the history") says, that Andy was born in 1948 in Cardiff, but not − as mentioned in the wikipedia article − in 1946 in Hengoed. What's fact? --79.218.103.233 (talk) 18:12, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think 1948 is correct. Not only does Andy's own website give that date, but An article by Robert Christgau in Perfect Sound Forever, published in 1978, says "He will be 30 in August" -- this after meeting and talking with AFL in person. So I've changed this. Greenpig (talk) 18:29, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

References go here-- not in the External links section[edit]

A lot of editors place references in the External links section of an article, but they do not belong there. I just moved the "link farm" from the External links of this article. I haven't checked them over, but please integrate the proper information from the following. When you are certain they are used up or not appropriate, just cross them off the list, like this. Thank you! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 16:08, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Joe Satriani[edit]

I do not understand the inclusion of a huge Joe Satriani template at the bottom of Andy Fairweather Low's page. In terms of Low's career, his time with Satriani is among the least important things he's done -- as far as I know, he only played on one JS CD. Why have a Joe Satriani template, when there's none for Eric Clapton, with whom AFL toured for years and years? (Not that I'm suggesting anyone should add one!) The JS template really doesn't belong on this page.

Greenpig (talk) 14:14, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, and I've removed it, as per Be Bold.

Personal Life[edit]

Is Andy married? What is his sexual orientation? Fletcherbrian (talk) 02:36, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why it matters but an article in the Daily Express last year says he's been married since November 1971 to Barbara, née Jones, sister of his bandmate Neil Jones from Amen Corner. One child and one grandchild. Greenpig (talk) 14:29, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like there's no good reason verifiable biographical information shouldn't go in the article; it's fairly standard to have a "personal life" section with (if applicable) spouse, children, etc. It seems weirder to be unsure "why it matters", frankly, given the nature of Wikipedia!

Surname[edit]

Why is his surname considered to be "Fairweather Low" instead of just "Low"? His birth record gives "Andrew F. Low", mother Clarke (so it's not even a synthesising of the parental surnames as can happen); his siblings don't have the "F." at all, so it's not part of a compound surname where they all have "Fairweather" as a second middle name, or something. I'm sure he was always billed as "Andy Fairweather Low", which sounds more impressive than "Andy Low", certainly, but did it just get to become his surname through use by writers etc over the years, or what? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.109.207.33 (talk) 02:59, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
