[edit]

The minor edit warring on this page has been noted outside the Wikipedia. See Pop goes that acting career#Just Wikied from the Sydney Morning Herald.

The Sydney animation and visual effects studio Animal Logic is scrambling to finish the kids' film Happy Feet, directed by George Miller and starring the voices of Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.

But something else was niggling the company this week. A sly battle has been taking place on the Wikipedia website, a free online encyclopedia edited by anyone around the world who has internet access.

This week someone inserted the following paragraph at the end of the otherwise bland entry about the company: "Animal Logic also has a reputation within the Australian market as a company that unfairly works their employees long hours without compensation as required by NSW and Australian industrial relations regulations."

Touche! The paragraph was soon deleted, after which it appeared again, and then disappeared again. When contacted, Animal Logic declined to comment.

The surprising thing is that the paragraph was apparently added by someone from within Animal Logic, unless their servers are open proxies. See this edit from 203.94.168.166 (talk · contribs), which and rDNS shows as mail.al.com.au, the mail server for Animal Logic Pty Ltd. BlankVerse 06:00, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

why is that surprising? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 210.55.0.200 (talkcontribs).
Because the vast majority of corporations monitor internet usage. For example, it is highly likely that the system administrators at http://wetafx.co.nz/ (aka Weta Digital Ltd./Weta Workshop Ltd.) have records of who made the edit from the IP 210.55.0.200. as an ex systems administrator of animal logic, I would say they are probably more occupied just trying to get what needs to be done to keep the buisness operating rather than tracking users internet access. I see that the original message was removed because it was classes as "slanderous", isnt truth considered a reasonable defense. It is generally accepted in the australian market that animal logic is not a pleasant place to work.--Bedel23 22:03, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you can cite a reference from a responsible source, such as a major newspaper or business journal, then it is something that can be included. Unsourced rumours, however, get deleted. [User:BlankVerse|Blank]]Verse 07:25, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
by virtue of that logic it can be added from the citation above?--Bedel23 04:46, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No. The quote at the top of this section is basically a bit of gossip without any substantive backing for the information. The Sydney Morning Herald is a generally reliable source of information, but the column the quote is from, however, is not. BlankVerse 08:27, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that it is quite crude for anyone to say that a company is not a good place to work. Even if you are employed there, maybe you just didn't get along well with the other employees. Animal must not have been too bad when they kept about 450 employees during the making of Happy Feet... Banno kun 06:18, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
