- Where are the reliable sources and the evidence in the article to show he meets the criteria at WP:BIO and/or WP:PROF? --JD554 (talk) 14:47, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- If he meets the criteria at WP:PROF as you now claim on this page. Which of the citeria there does this page mention? Just to remind you the criteria at WP:PROF are:
- The person is regarded as a significant expert in his or her area by independent sources.
- The person is regarded as an important figure by independent notable academics in the same field.
- The person has published a significant and well-known academic work. An academic work may be significant or well known if, for example, it is the basis for a textbook or course; if it is itself the subject of multiple, independent works; or if it is widely cited by other authors in the academic literature[1].
- The person's collective body of work is significant and well-known.
- The person is known for originating an important new concept, theory or idea which is the subject of multiple, independent, non-trivial reviews or studies in works meeting our standards for reliable sources.
- The person has received a notable award or honor, or has been often nominated for them.
- None of the above is mentioned in article. --JD554 (talk) 14:54, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
#The person has received a notable award or honor, or has been often nominated for them. IEEE Fellow and NAE membership is notable enough. --- A. L. M. —Preceding comment was added at 14:56, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- I've withdrawn my speedy on the grounds of the IEEE fellowship having read up on it. However, there are no sources etc. It's not a good stub. --JD554 (talk) 15:00, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Notability
[edit]I think the combination of being a university dean, an IEEE fellow and a peer-elected member of NAE combine to make an acceptable claim to and assertion of notability. DuncanHill (talk) 15:34, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- I agree having now looked into this. Membership of the National Academy of Engineering cannot be applied for, it is awarded by your peers.[1] The same is true for becoming a Fellow of the IEEE.[2] That means that Abidi meets the criteria at point #2 at WP:PROF (which WP:BIO defers to for academics). I'm therefore removing the newly added notability tag. --JD554 (talk) 16:02, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Good one. The NAE says about membership on their website:-
"Individuals can not apply for membership in the NAE and, thus, there are no "application forms" for membership in the NAE. The procedures for nomination and election of member and foreign associate candidates involve a search in all fields of engineering by present members of the NAE for outstanding engineers with identifiable contributions or accomplishments in one or both of the following categories:
- Engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature.
- Pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.
A candidate for membership shall also be recognized by associates and others for professional integrity."
Which seems quite clear. DuncanHill (talk) 16:12, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Self-promotion
[edit]The section marked for speedy deletion seems to be a self-promotion. It is highly unlikely that a so much detail about the life of a living person is known by the public except himself
