Use of lists

[edit]

Could editors please note that lists are not to be used in the lead section, which is a brief textual summary of the article body. Lists are also of very limited use in the article body; there is, in particular, no point making a bulleted or numbered list to introduce an eightfold topic when that list structure is immediately afterwards embedded in the article's heading structure, a much better form of "list". I do hope this is clear; happy to discuss if anything needs to be explained further. Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:23, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I see no use in duplicating the info from Yoga Sutras of Patanjali in this article, which was copied from the Yoga Sutras, and propose redirecting it to the Yoga Sutras. Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 04:59, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ah. The goal was, and is, (1) to cut down the coverage of the Ashtanga in Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and (2) gradually to increase the coverage here. I actually began to do task (1), but despite the presence of a "Main" link to here someone restored the whole text over there, creating the problem you identify, and leading me to go and work on something else.
The YSP section and this article are (despite that) not identical. This article has more citations, and it is appropriately illustrated. The YSP section has very recently been extended with a substantial chunk on Samprajnata Samadhi, which should simply be moved here, leaving a summary over there.
There is large scope for a more detailed article on Ashtanga (eight limbs of yoga) – it's actually quite hard to understand why there hasn't been one given the amount of attention the topic has received, and it would still make sense to cut down the over-long coverage at YSP. I'm quite happy to try again if you and others are willing to support the project over at YSP, and that's what I'd like to do. Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:53, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I see; I'll give it some thought/attention too. Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 08:38, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved the detailed content to this page. Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 08:51, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll have a look at some sources and see what's a priority to expand. Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:38, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Both topics seem essential to the overall topic and full encyclopedic coverage at each takes away from neither. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:03, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
