Neutrality

[edit]

The "Is augmentation really "learning"?" section seems to be skewed towards trying to disprove critical arguments rather then to state them.

"Critics may see learning augmentation as a crutch that precludes memorization; similar arguments have been made about using calculators in the past. Just as rote learning is also not a substitute for understanding, augmented learning is simply another faculty for helping learners recall, present and process information."

Expanding the definition

[edit]

Augmented Learning is evolving as we speak. We could define Augmented Learning as a new learning modality that uses some form of Augmented Reality. AR creates a semi-transparent supplemental content layer either using a mobile device (primarily smart phones) or with AR eyewear (see the Vuvix 920) but were initially developed to be displayed on desktops and laptops screens using a web camera. There is also a degree of interactivity either by tracking eye movement, hand and facial gestures as its primary user input device. One might use a traditional computer to display augmented learning content though the purpose of Augmented Reality and Augmented Learning is to untether the user/learner from their seditary computer based environment from having to use such devices as a monitor, keyboard and a mouse or other pointer devices. It also provides true just-in-time type of learning that can be used during the moment of applying such knowledge (see the BMW Video on YouTube that is perhaps one of the very best demonstrations of applying Augmented Learning in the workplace.
