Stub
[edit]This is not a speedy delete candidate, it's a stub article describing a real thing and it is meaningful. 64.200.124.189 21:41, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
Distinction between "backyard" and "back yard"
[edit]"Backyard" should be used as the adjectival form, as in "backyard barbecue." "Back yard," and not "backyard," should be the nominal form. Justification: We don't say "frontyard." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lestrad (talk • contribs) 07:55, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Proposed merge
[edit]I have proposed that Back garden be merged into this article (which should shortly be moved to Back yard for consistency). The content there is far superior and should, for the most part, replace the content here with the addition of some regional differences in naming conventions as appears at Front yard (which was collaboratively improved last year and Front garden rightly redirects there). The use of "garden" instead of "yard" is almost entirely British and while that should be acknowledged, we shouldn't have both given each is actually about the same thing just with a different name. - It doesn't seem to be ENGVAR—several varieties use it. Thanks. — AjaxSmack 02:43, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

Support per WP:NOUN (Nouns and noun phrases are normally preferred over titles using other parts of speech). The current title is primarily an adjective form.See also previous discussion above. — AjaxSmack 00:35, 27 March 2014 (UTC) I guess I'm too old fashioned. — AjaxSmack 02:43, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose - across both AmE and BrE, "backyard" wins as a noun. (In singular ... and plural) Red Slash 01:50, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
