Ronald Syme says that M. Barbarius Phillippus, the quaestor under Antonius, is not the runaway slave who became praetor, whom he names as M. Barbatius Pollio, differing with Broughton, MRR2. In vol. 3, Broughton concurs. This is based on a reexamination of a comma in Cicero, a coin listed by Crawford, and an ILS entry for a curule aedile by the name M. Barbatius Pollio that was perhaps uncovered after RE and Smith's. This is just a note, because I can't dig in to it at the moment. Cynwolfe (talk) 01:24, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
