Who's White?
[edit]The most vexing unanswered question I've got after launching this article is: who's the battery named after?
I strongly suspect that it was Major William Capers White. In Rick Simmons's book (cited repeatedly in the article), his death at Antietam is described: "Major William Capers White, who was one of the first officers to organize the defenses along the coast, is killed at Sharpsburg." (timeline, p. 162) Unfortunately, neither Simmons nor any other source I've been able to find says that the battery was named after him.
If an editor with better access to sources covering South Carolina during the War of Northern Aggression could fill in this bit of information, it'd significantly improve the article.
