Battle

Did Charles X really participate in this battle? I know he was the commander of the army. But in Swedish sources, this was an ambush made on the Swedish wagons (train troops), far away where Charles X couldn't command or lead his soldiers. 1,000 were killed, these were most civilians, only the train troops could defend them but got overwhelmed by superior numbers. According to Polish sources, Swedes took Jarosław March 11. Under Wielkie Oczy Czarniecki destroyed the Swedish squad (consisting of nearly one thousand reiter's). Douglas went to help Peter Hammerskjöld who besieged Przemyśl. Douglas learned that Czarniecki went in his direction and returned to Jarosław. At the news of Czarniecki, Charles X began hurriedly pull off troops deployed in the villages and fortify the city. Czarniecki attacked on March 15 consisting of 300 soldiers guard the Swedish, who guarded the workers performing earthworks and Swedish guard have been destroyed. When the main Swedish force (under the command of Charles X) arrived, Czarniecki gave the order to retreat in the surrounding forests. Swedes sent a reiters behind Czarniecki. Swedish reiters unsuccessfully pursued the Czarniecki troops until late at night, incurring large losses. Kcdlp (talk) 20:02, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Swedish sources mentions; Czarniecki had a superior force of light cavalry which were used to ambush those of the small Swedish detachments that got separated from the main army. During Jaroslaw, Czarniecki attacked the Swedish baggage train, along with its campfollowers. Yes, Douglas went back after seeing the risk to be isolated from the main army. Under Wielkie Oczy Czarniecki destroyed the Swedish squad (consisting of nearly one thousand reiter's). There's no mentions about 1,000 reiters being destroyed like this (I can look harder though). Czarniecki attacked on March 15 consisting of 300 soldiers guard the Swedish, who guarded the workers performing earthworks and Swedish guard have been destroyed. Did he attack with 300 men? Or was the guarding Swedish units consisting of 300 men? It also says, during the battle, Charles X was on the other side of the San river, and couldn't cross it in time to help his guard units. Does it mention who was the commander during that attack? There's also a mention of when Swedish units under Douglas catched up with some Polish soldiers/farmers of 2,000 who had been ordered to defend a grove during the Polish retreat. Here Douglas managed to drive them off and kill 1,200 of them. I think both sides suffered great casualties during the retreat. Imonoz (talk) 14:47, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Swedish guarding was 300 men. Yes, Czarniecki had a superior force. Douglas returned to Jarosław before Czarniecki coming under town. Douglas troops while crossing the frozen up San broke down the ice, were killed several dozen Swedish soldiers. As Czarniecki withdrew, Swedish reiters attacked him, but the Swedes were defeated.
