Untitled[edit]

I don't know how to add this to the article correctly, but the Beastie Boys do a satirical cover of Benny and the Jets. It's on the second disc of the album "The Sounds of Science."

The Song is called "Benny and the Jets" not "Bennie and the Jets"

You're quite correct — the title is "Benny..." so I've switched the Elton John article to appear under the correct title. Mrstonky 03:54, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

spelling of "Bennie"[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was Bennie; move made partly because histmerge was needed. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 21:49, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article was mis-posted under the title "Bennie and the Jets" so I've switched it to go under the correct spelling, as used by the record company. Mrstonky 03:56, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The correct spelling is "Bennie," which is how it is listed in the track listing on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. It is highly unlikely that the spelling of the song -- if it isn't "Bennie" -- would make it through over thirty years and several reissues as a typo. --piper108 02:16, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was going by the spelling on the single. I've since done a bit of research and found that the spelling varies, even on official releases. The track is listed as Benny on the album's original vinyl disc label, but Bennie on the sleeve![1] Amazon list it as Benny on most entries for Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Regardless of this, I think you are right: most modern references list it as Bennie. Mrstonky 07:56, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is "Bennie." I can't move it back, so I have requested the move from admins. --Jnelson09 (talk) 04:35, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Support move, although the image on the article does say "Benny". But Elton John's site spells it "Bennie" however. Cross porpoises (talk) 19:25, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Fair use rationale for Image:Bennie.JPG[edit]

Image:Bennie.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Could someone rewrite the following section so that it doesn't sound like a PR hack wrote it?

"...but then Elton usually adds his usual flair of showmanship... Elton's diversity is never-ending and Bennie is a true example of this, being a highly-anticipated song at any of his concerts." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.98.147.130 (talk) 19:34, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

covers[edit]

In the Covers section, aren't the Beastie Boys' version and Biz Markie version referring to the same song? --Denise from the Cosby Show (talk) 04:19, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

References in Pop Culture[edit]

The inclusion of "27 Dresses" and "The Office" are kind of silly. If we included every movie/television show that had characters singing the song or a parody of it, the page would be nearly endless.. Sepponearth (talk) 09:58, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Even though "Candy and Ronnie" is how the names are spelled in the lyrics I find on-line, it always sounded to me like "Kenny and Ronnie", which I thought as significant because those were the two mischievous kids Frank Zappa mentions growing up with in "Let's Make the Water Turn Black".--JCSBimp (talk) 18:12, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Youtube[edit]

on all these music pages they should have youtube links, like really--Nascar09 (talk) 22:00, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Like not really - unless officially released by the record company to YT, those postings are violations of copyright.

Aloha Bobby and Rose (1975)[edit]

in this movie Bennie and the jets is sang by elton and is used in the tragic scene where Bobby is shot and killed, leaving the song to fade out of the scene and end the movie.Tr26t (talk) 07:12, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Another point about this film is that the song was in heavy 'top 40' rotation at the time of release of the movie.

An Actual Band Called Benny and the Jets[edit]

There was once an Australian band called Benny and the Jets, obviously named after this song. They released some singles, an album called 'Hey Rock & Roll' and were in existence in the late Nineteen-Seventies. Does anyone have any information about them? (They weren't the only one in the world, surely?) Eligius (talk) 07:28, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This was originally called Benne Gesserits[edit]

TP fake vandalism. Removed.

UK chart performance.[edit]

Although the article makes no mention of it, I note that, according to the Guinness book of British Hit Singles, Bennie & the Jets didn't chart in the UK until 1976 & then only reached no. 37 - & this in the wake of having topped the UK singles chart for the first time! Gwladys24 (talk) 21:49, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Drug references[edit]

I was under the impression that the name of the song was a Drug reference, namely Benzedrine.(Morcus (talk) 01:50, 10 January 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Perhaps you were taking this drug when you posted? Seriously, we discuss RS here to improve the articles.50.111.45.222 (talk) 08:08, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Influences section[edit]

I removed the influences section. It's a bit overkill. The one entry in it was about Axl Rose claiming the importance of the song in his decision to become a rock'n'roller. Well, the citation did not support this, but the video of his introduction of Elton John when he was inducted in the Hall of Fame does mention the song. But I still think it doesn't need to be here. Mondegreen[edit]

Is this whole section in existence just because of the 27 Dresses scene? I imagine the first ref is just a website of mondegreens that itself only exists because of aforementioned film.
