So far, this article is in the midst of development. The analysis is original work, as is the plot summary. Tgkohn 22:59, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
As of today, the writing is complete. Let the revision begin! Tgkohn 22:20, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Plot Section
[edit]The plot section makes no sense and appears to be incomplete. The first paragraph is barely readable and the second paragraph starts randomly mentioning a dead body which had not been described earlier. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.161.215.147 (talk) 01:59, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
- Because of the nonsensical plot, I reverted the page to a lengthy (but sensible) version. Feel free to shorten it, but let's not make it impossible to understand.73.135.55.13 (talk) 22:52, 10 July 2016 (UTC)
Analysis
[edit]I removed the analysis section as it came off to me as a personal essay. If there is to be such a section, it should be sourced by reviews or published essays.--CyberGhostface (talk) 03:44, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

- Jörg Metelmann, "Living on Video. Mediale Kontrolle und humanistischer Kontrollverlust: Eine Relektüre von Michael Hanekes Benny’s Video" in Nach dem Film. Metelmann, in fairly great detail, raises the following observant points, among others:
- He compares the hand-to-hand exchange of cash and pills is counterposed to the overarching sense of the Bach cantata, although the film presents only a portion of one motet from the cantata.
- He contrasts the tightly-hung gallery of prints, simultaneously post-modern and yet bourgeois in its selection, at the family table with Benny's fascination with Donald Duck cartoons and video imagery.
- He relates the film to the Zygmunt Bauman essay "Modernity and Ambivalence: The End of Unambiguity."
- He analyzes the Arno Frisch performance as "almost irritatingly monotonous, ...as if behind the visible gaze is the eye of a camera, which scans reality for its ability to be transferred to film."
- He considers how Benny's parents are also perpetrators, or at least ennablers, of the murder and how Benny embodies the fundamental difference between the perpetrator and victim.
