Rolling back article[edit]

@Sitush: I have rolled this article back to the last unmangled version (by Sitush in April 2014). The last sentence in particular had been rendered meaningless by later deletions and other edits. I have also merged back in cited information from 2012 (again at the last edit by Sitush) which seems to be useful but got overwritten by years on nonsense. If the two articles - Bhar and Rajbhar - are indeed synonymous then, of course, they should be merged. We have a source that says this is so but the "states" series of The People of India is not particularly reliable, based as it is on plagiarised material from Raj-era ethnonographic books etc. Can anyone confirm/deny the synonymity? @Sitush: To the best of my knowledge, both are synonymous. It appears that the people of this caste started to use title (second name) "Rajbhar" while the name of the caste was popularly known as "Bhar" (though it may now be seen as an offensive term). We have two related articles, i.e. Suhaldev who is considered to be a legendary king of this tribe "Bhar" (of course along with other claims, but still it proves that the community in question here was called "Bhar"); and another article about the present leader of this community Om Prakash Rajbhar (using "Rajbhar" as his title). References provided in Suhaldev article - Gazetteer of Oudh mentions such a tribe named "bhar" as well as this one too. PIB, GoI Release mentions both as same community. this one can be seen to get some insights though not much reliable. I would suggest, if this article is primarily focused on the caste, we should go with Bhar. --SM7^--talk-- 14:36, 1 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. The People Groups website and the Gazetteer are not very reliable, as you know. The government SC/ST/OBC lists are always problematic - there is ambiguity regarding whether they are treating the two as synonyms or related etc, and that is why we tend not to use them. हिंदुस्थान वासी just removed the merge tags and redirect Rajbhar to this article but did not leave an explanation. I presume they thought there was consensus for a move but I would like to see that made explicit. Since I appear to have been sitting on the fence a bit, there isn't really any strong consensus as yet. - Sitush (talk) 17:50, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
