Distribution: Latitudinal Gradients

[edit]

Not a biologist, but this sentence doesn't seem accurate or consistent with the rest of the article:

"Several ecological factors may contribute to the gradient, but the ultimate factor behind many of them is the greater mean temperature at the equator compared to that of the poles."

I would imagine it's less about temperature per se than available solar energy, no? The latter being the cause for the former, and also the cause of the higher average primary productivity of equatorial ecosystems. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.193.40.5 (talk) 14:45, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The section on "The balance of evidence"?

[edit]

I don't understand the section on "The balance of evidence" - what a strange title. It is within the section on ecosystem services but I am wondering if some of it shouldn't rather be moved to ecosystem services. Isn't it going into too much detail for an overview article? And the article has so many bullet point lists, it doesn't make for very good reading. EMsmile (talk) 03:36, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
