African Australian or Black Australian?

[edit]

It seems that the article misses the difference between those two terms. For example, most of the recent South African immigrants will be of European ancestry, and while you might call them African-Australians, they are not black by any definition of the term. I would suggest renaming the article.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.128.231.245 (talk) 22:39, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a reference that might be useful for anyone working on this article: [1]https://overland.org.au/2015/03/are-there-black-people-in-australia/.
Please excuse the bare URL. I don't want to take the time to figure out how to properly insert the reference right now.

Black Australians are also Indigenous Australians

[edit]

The use of Black Australians is a term used to refer to Indigenous Australians, the 5,000+ ghits on "Black Australians" -Africa include The University of Queensland "Black Australian Literature"[2] part of the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander studies. Then theres "Black Australian Nurses' Stories" published by Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses[3]. and more "Aboriginality and Black Australian Drama" by Adam Shoemaker says In this chapter, distinctive elements of Aboriginal drama are explored. These are briefly contrasted with the work of selected White Australian playwrights in order to highlight the contribution of Black Australian dramatists to the Aboriginal movement, to the formulation of the concept of Aboriginality, and to the enrichment of Australian literature as a whole.[4] thats from Australian National University in Canberra. I notice that this article was created on 2-Mar-2008, and this version was a direct cut+paste from the 2-Mar-2008 version of African Australian. Therefore we should have no hesitation and turning this into a disambuguation page between Indigenous Australians and African Australian, because nothing will be lost.
