More titles

[edit]

I believe it would benefiting if we put in more titles such as extra curricular activities —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.11.134.72 (talk) 18:17, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To right maybe even a page on pupil achievments because i knew this fellow who broke a math record recently from the school —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.11.134.72 (talk) 18:38, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Updates

[edit]

Did a wee bit on facilities and equipment, will finish soon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.14.145.34 (talk) 18:12, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Added a number of pictures --OrangeM16 (talk) 04:41, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add pictures you didn't create yourself and do not own the copyright for. I've just had to remove them. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 17:06, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Burnistoun Citation

[edit]

OK added 3 citations for the school being in the BBC show, including a youtube video which clearly shows one of the maths classrooms used in a sketch OrangeM16 (talk) 13:54, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

These cites are not up to scratch I'm afraid. First one is a random twitter from some minor musician. Second is to a mirror of this article (Wikipedia cannot cite itself). And the last consists of your interpretation of a video of uncertain origin. None of these are reliable sources. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 17:05, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

seeing as I'm a pupil at the school, I can verify that this video clearly shows one of our maths classrooms. The twitter feed is that of Tommy Reilly who went to the school also. This is a minor article on my local school, and there are no bloody perfect sources which say the school was used in Burnistoun - but go and watch the series and its in it. Are you a pupil/former pupil? I suggest you calm down a bit.

I understand wikipedia has to keep to certain standards, but this is ridiculous --OrangeM16 (talk) 17:36, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Update: added a youtube video which clearly shows exterior of school at 23:53. If this doesn't count then I don't know what does. Clear proof that the school was used in Burnistoun. I'll be quite miffed if you remove this escapeorbit --OrangeM16 (talk) 19:51, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You should read This policy here and this policy here before editing further. I am not wanting to discourage your edits, but you need learn what is acceptable. Saying "I'm a pupil, so I should know" is not acceptable. No-one cares what you claim, or know. (Anymore than they care what I claim or know.) We are both just anonymous people on the internet. What matters is what's verifiable from reliable sources, and these cites were not. Nor is linking to a Youtube video (which is almost certainly a copyright violation) and saying "That's what this shows" acceptable for the same reasons.
Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 22:03, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have read WP:YOUTUBE and accept why you've removed the citation. I'll try and find a verifiable, reliable source, though I highly doubt there is one which will meet such standards. It seems wrong to remove a truth about the school just because it doesn't say explicitly anywhere on a news site/school site/ED council site 'BOCLAIR ACADEMY WAS USED IN BURNISTOUN' --OrangeM16 (talk) 22:30, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. See the first paragraph of verifiability policy; "Verifiability, and not truth, is one of the fundamental requirements for inclusion in Wikipedia." Hope you manage to find something. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 22:37, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know if this changes anything but added the episode's details to the bibliograhy section at bottom. --OrangeM16 (talk) 03:00, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edits

[edit]

I have done a number of edits which show up on the history page, some are major but lots are minor tweaks (I apologise for not labelling them as such) --OrangeM16 (talk) 21:33, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Quality scale Request

[edit]

made a request here Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Assessment to have the article assessed as it has been significantly developed. Awaiting assessment with anticipation! I hope we're no longer a stub!

July 2012 Assessment

[edit]

I am assessing this article after a request made here. This article is now substantially improved versus Stub class with generally expanded content and some referencing and I am therfore assessing this article as Start/Low, although in my opinion it is very close to C-class if the referencing (explained below) is improved. What has prevented this article from attaining a higher class is the almost total reliance on one first party source for referencing i.e. the school website, the article will need to rely much more extensively on external 3rd party sources if it were to attain a higher class. The article also contains a number of trivialities that may only be of interest to those connected with the school. I have removed the school values & vision section as this comes across as advertising and falls foul of WP:NOTADVERT. The article structure also needs some work, some suggestions of and "ideal" layout and sections may be found here. If you need any more guidance/contest this assessment, please leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks, GlanisTalk 08:50, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Response to reversions by User:OrangeM16

[edit]

I removed these two sections for the following reasons:

"English The English department in Boclair runs its own student help website called www.edrez.co.uk which is used along with class learning to aid students of all ages outside school time with essays and other tasks."

  • First, wikipedia school articles should not contain web addresses save for a link to the main school website in an info-box and in the article footer. Also from what I can see from the website's whois entry is does not appear to be owned or managed by the school:

and it appears that the site is for the assistance of all SQA students. As such there is no information that can verify ownership to the school, so as a result it should not be mentioned on the page as it is an unverifiable, highly contestable point.

"Modern Languages This department runs weekly French and Spanish clubs for fun."

  • In by opinion this section is trivial, and not required as per WP:WPSCH/AG as in my opinion it is only of interest to current school pupils.

Thanks GlanisTalk 16:16, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, Edrez does appear to be a peculiar beast that's an ugly mashup of various free-source tools, no indication of who runs it, and little explanation on what it does. It could be used by multiple schools and owned by a third party, but who knows?
I've tidied the bit about the language clubs. No harm to it being there, but it was badly phrased. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 16:59, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK that makes sense - the website is operated by only one teacher at the school after all I suppose and to be honest it is used very little anyway so there's no point getting in an argument about it. Thanks for the input - I'm fairly new to wikipedia so I'm not so clued up as to what constitutes triviality/advertising etc. OrangeM16 (talk) 20:33, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I added this section. Talk here if you think there's a problem with it (I'm in two minds whether it warrants a section to itself) OrangeM16 (talk) 00:49, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
